In 2019, InGraph LTD, a British company, embarked on a transformative journey by launching the InGraph IT Platform. The primary objective of this project was to redefine the assessment criteria for scientific activity, moving beyond traditional citation indicators to establish a more objective and transparent evaluation process. Departing from the conventional "science for science" model, InGraph aimed to usher in a new era of "science for human welfare."
Unlike the first model, which relies solely on citation rates, the "science for human welfare" model considers the interest in scientific content from users across various sectors of national economies, emphasizing practical applicability. The platform's unique approach involves incorporating assessments from both reviewers and users, allowing for valuable feedback on the objectivity of reviews. All rating indicators are meticulously organized within scientific clusters, segmented into specific scientific and subject areas to ensure precision and eliminate anomalies identified in traditional models.
This innovative approach addresses issues raised by Marcin Palys, the former rector of the University of Warsaw, who observed disparities in rating institutions, such as technical universities excelling in legal disciplines.
For scientists, the motivation to embrace the "science for human welfare" model is evident. It preserves exclusive copyright and empowers authors to decide between open or closed access to their publications. In the latter scenario, authors can monetize their work directly, enjoying nearly one hundred percent permanent income without intermediaries. This stands in contrast to the existing model, where publishers monopolize distribution, reaping significant profits and claiming copyrights from authors.
The InGraph IT Platform has been operational since August 2021, and a comprehensive overview of its principles and scientific rationale is detailed in the monograph "The Technology of Scientific and Practical Communications: InGraph Case Study."
For further insights, a promotional video accompanies the book, providing an engaging overview of the groundbreaking "Science for Human Welfare" model and its potential to reshape the landscape of scientific communication and publication.
